Vaishnaw Calls on Global Tech Firms to Manufacture Servers, Chips and Electronics in India

Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw used the foundation stone ceremony of the Google Cloud India AI Hub in Visakhapatnam on June 5, 2026, to deliver a direct message to multinational technology companies: India is ready to manufacture semiconductors, servers, GPU systems, memory chips, and advanced electronic equipment at global scale. The event was attended by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and senior Google executives.

India's Manufacturing Transformation

Vaishnaw acknowledged that India had historically missed opportunities in electronics fabrication, semiconductor manufacturing, and hardware development. However, the Make in India programme and the India Semiconductor Mission have reversed that trajectory. The minister noted that smartphones have become India's single largest export product — a milestone that validates the country's manufacturing competitiveness on the global stage. India is now advancing simultaneously across electronics manufacturing, semiconductor production, chip design, and artificial intelligence.

The Call to Manufacture

The minister specifically urged companies like Google to manufacture servers, GPU systems, and memory chips within India. As domestic demand for AI infrastructure, data centres, and high-performance computing grows rapidly, local manufacturing of these components becomes both commercially attractive and strategically important for supply chain resilience. Vaishnaw stressed that India can produce modules, components, finished electronic products, and advanced electronic equipment at standards competitive with existing Asia-Pacific manufacturing hubs.

Google Cloud AI Hub, Visakhapatnam

The Google Cloud India AI Hub in Visakhapatnam is a significant digital infrastructure investment in Andhra Pradesh, aligned with the state's ambitions to make Vizag a technology and innovation destination. The hub will support AI workloads, cloud services, and digital transformation for Indian enterprises and government agencies. Observers view such investments as a signal that the government's push for semiconductor-adjacent hardware manufacturing is gaining traction among global technology majors — and that India's chip ecosystem story is increasingly credible to boardrooms worldwide.
