Suchi Semicon Palsana OSAT Commences Operations in Gujarat

Suchi Semicon's OSAT facility in Palsana, Gujarat was virtually inaugurated by Prime Minister Modi at SEMICON India 2026, marking the commencement of the company's semiconductor assembly and test operations. The facility, approved by the Cabinet in May 2026 with INR 868 crore in government support, focuses on packaging of power semiconductors and sensors for automotive and industrial applications. Palsana adds to the growing semiconductor manufacturing cluster emerging in Gujarat.

Suchi Semicon Palsana Adds to Gujarat's Rising Semiconductor Cluster

Suchi Semicon, an Indian semiconductor assembly company, has commenced operations at its OSAT facility in Palsana, Surat district, Gujarat, following a virtual inauguration by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the SEMICON India 2026 event in New Delhi. The facility received Cabinet approval in May 2026, becoming the twelfth semiconductor manufacturing project approved under the India Semiconductor Mission programme, and government support of INR 868 crore has been committed to the project. The commencement of operations at Palsana is significant as a further validation of the India Semiconductor Mission's ability to translate approved projects into operational facilities within a reasonable timeframe, and it expands Gujarat's semiconductor manufacturing presence beyond Sanand to a second cluster in the Surat region.

Focus on Power Semiconductors and Sensors

Suchi Semicon's Palsana facility is differentiated from the other Gujarat OSAT facilities by its focus on power semiconductor packaging and sensor assembly. Power semiconductors, which control and convert electrical energy in applications including electric vehicle powertrains, solar inverters, industrial motor drives, and power supplies, require specialised packaging techniques that handle higher voltages and currents than standard logic or memory packages. Package types used for power devices include TO-series through-hole packages, D2PAK and similar surface mount formats, and increasingly SiP-style integrated power modules. Sensor assembly at Palsana covers MEMS-based pressure, inertial, and magnetic sensors used in automotive and industrial control applications, which require precision die bonding and controlled-environment assembly to preserve sensor performance characteristics.

Location and Regional Industrial Context

Palsana is located in the Surat district of Gujarat, which is home to an established industrial base in textiles, diamonds, chemicals, and manufacturing. The semiconductor industry's arrival in the Surat region through Suchi Semicon represents a diversification of its industrial profile into high-technology manufacturing, which the Gujarat state government has actively supported through land allocation, infrastructure provision, and workforce development assistance. The Palsana facility is physically separate from the Sanand cluster where Micron, Kaynes Semicon, and CG Power are building their facilities, creating two distinct semiconductor manufacturing nodes within the same state. This geographic distribution is deliberate, as it reduces the concentration risk of having all semiconductor assets at a single location and develops the industrial infrastructure and workforce in a broader area of Gujarat.

Commercial Ramp and Customer Development

Suchi Semicon is targeting automotive Tier-1 suppliers and industrial electronics manufacturers as its primary customers, leveraging the proximity to Surat's manufacturing base and the connections that the Indian Semiconductor Mission ecosystem provides for introductions to larger electronics companies. The power semiconductor packaging segment is strategically important because it addresses one of India's highest-import-dependency device categories: the power electronic modules used in EV systems, renewable energy equipment, and industrial drives are currently sourced almost entirely from overseas. A domestic packaging option for these devices reduces the supply chain risk for Indian EV manufacturers and industrial companies and aligns with the government's objective of reducing electronics import bills by developing domestic alternatives across the semiconductor product spectrum.
