SEMI India Membership Crosses 300 Companies Marking Ecosystem Depth

SEMI India, the industry association representing the global semiconductor and electronics manufacturing ecosystem in India, has crossed 300 member companies, a milestone that reflects the dramatic expansion of India's chip industry presence. The membership spans equipment suppliers, materials companies, fabless chip designers, OSAT operators, EDA software vendors, and research institutions. SEMI India membership doubled in 18 months as SEMICON India 2026 attracted new entrants to the country's semiconductor sector.

SEMI India at 300 Members Shows the Breadth of India's Semiconductor Ecosystem

SEMI, the global industry association for the microelectronics, display, and related supply chains, has reported that its India chapter membership has crossed 300 companies, a milestone that marks a dramatic expansion of the organised semiconductor industry presence in the country. The 300-member threshold was reached following SEMICON India 2026, which attracted companies from more than 40 countries and generated a wave of new member registrations as both Indian and international companies formalised their participation in India's semiconductor ecosystem. The membership spans the full range of the semiconductor supply chain, from capital equipment providers and specialty materials suppliers through design IP licensors, EDA software vendors, fabless chip designers, OSAT operators, printed circuit board manufacturers, and research institutions, reflecting the breadth of value chain segments that are now represented in India's semiconductor community.

Membership Composition and Growth Drivers

The 300-member figure is roughly double the SEMI India membership from eighteen months ago, with the acceleration driven by three categories of new entrants. First, international equipment and materials companies that had not previously needed a formal India presence have joined as customers at the Tata Dholera fab, Kaynes Sanand, CG Power Sanand, and Micron Sanand create demand for their products and services. Second, Indian startups and services companies that have been founded or funded in the semiconductor space over the past two years are joining to access SEMI India's networking, market research, and standards participation opportunities. Third, Indian companies from adjacent sectors including precision engineering, specialty chemicals, and electronics manufacturing services are joining as they explore diversification into semiconductor supply chain roles. The growth in all three categories reflects the broadening commercial opportunity that India's semiconductor programme is creating.

SEMI India's Role in Standards and Policy

SEMI maintains the international technical standards for semiconductor manufacturing equipment, materials, process chemicals, and automation interfaces, and SEMI India's growing membership base gives Indian companies increasing participation in the standards development process. Companies that participate in SEMI standards committees can influence specifications in ways that benefit their products and processes, and they gain early visibility into upcoming standards that affect their engineering and product development roadmaps. SEMI India also engages actively with MeitY, the India Semiconductor Mission, and state government bodies to advocate for policies that support semiconductor ecosystem development, including import duty structures on equipment and materials, skill development programme design, and infrastructure provision at semiconductor manufacturing sites. The larger and more diverse the membership, the more credible and representative SEMI India's policy advocacy becomes.

Events and Knowledge Sharing

SEMI India organises SEMICON India, which has become the country's largest semiconductor industry event and drew tens of thousands of attendees in 2026 alongside hundreds of exhibitors. The chapter also organises technology seminars, supply chain matchmaking events, and career development programmes throughout the year. The 300-member milestone increases the diversity and relevance of these events, as members represent more of the supply chain and create more opportunities for productive introductions and business development interactions. SEMI India has indicated plans to expand its regional event programme to cities beyond Delhi and Bengaluru, including Pune, Hyderabad, and Chennai, as semiconductor activity grows in multiple Indian cities and the member base seeks networking opportunities closer to where their engineering and production operations are based.
