Prime Minister Narendra Modi will officially inaugurate the fifth edition of SEMICON India 2026 on September 17 at the Yashobhoomi International Convention and Expo Centre in Dwarka, New Delhi. The three-day event, running from September 17 to 19, is jointly organised by the India Semiconductor Mission, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, and SEMI, the global industry association representing the electronics design and manufacturing supply chain. PM Modi's personal involvement in the inauguration underscores the strategic priority India's national leadership places on its semiconductor programme and is expected to set the tone for a series of major policy and investment announcements at the event.
SEMICON India 2026 is the largest edition since the event's inception, with over 500 exhibitors including 294 international companies from more than 40 countries. The 2026 edition has grown approximately 30 percent over the 2025 edition in terms of floor space, exhibitor count, and registered visitor numbers, reflecting the rapid escalation of global industry interest in India's semiconductor opportunity. Country pavilions from Japan, South Korea, the Netherlands, Singapore, Malaysia, and Sweden will showcase domestic equipment vendors, materials suppliers, and technology companies seeking partnerships with Indian counterparts. More than 150 global speakers are confirmed for the conference programme, which spans semiconductor manufacturing, chip design, compound semiconductors, semiconductor equipment, talent development, and supply chain resilience.
A headline event at SEMICON India 2026 will be a closed-door roundtable between Prime Minister Modi and the chief executives of leading global semiconductor companies. The session is expected to cover India's ISM 2.0 roadmap, specific investment proposals from global companies considering India capacity expansions, bilateral technology partnership opportunities, and India's ambitions around supply chain diversification. Companies confirmed or expected at the CEO roundtable include major equipment vendors, memory manufacturers, logic foundries, EDA software providers, and materials companies, representing a cross-section of the full semiconductor value chain that rarely assembles in one room outside of events in Taiwan or South Korea.
SEMICON India 2026 serves as the public platform for ISM 2.0 after the gazette notification was issued on August 31. Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw is scheduled to present the full ISM 2.0 framework, including the six-pillar structure, investment thresholds by segment, startup equity co-investment provisions, and the advanced node roadmap targeting 3nm and 2nm fabrication capability by the early 2030s. Analysts expect the event to also feature first-time public disclosures on new fab and OSAT applications already in the Semicon 2.0 pipeline, as well as announcements on Phase 2 DLI approvals for chip design startups.
The 2026 event theme, Silicon to Systems: Building the Ecosystem, reflects a deliberate shift in India's semiconductor narrative from raw manufacturing investment to full-stack integration. India's goal is no longer simply to produce wafers or package chips but to develop complete electronic systems based on domestically designed and manufactured silicon, serving markets in defence, automotive, telecommunications, healthcare, and industrial automation. This systems-level ambition requires coordination across the chip design, manufacturing, packaging, testing, and electronic system integration layers, which is precisely the integration that SEMICON India 2026 is designed to facilitate through its curated matchmaking programme and partnership forums.
