Morphing Machines Raises INR 80 Crore Series A to Advance REDEFINE Many-Core Chip Platform

Morphing Machines, a Hyderabad-based semiconductor company focused on reconfigurable computing architectures, has closed a Rs 80 crore Series A funding round to accelerate development and commercialisation of its flagship REDEFINE processor platform. The round was led by Hero Enterprise Partner Ventures and joined by Colossa Ventures and Navam Capital, with an earlier tranche of Rs 42 crore from the same investor group forming the initial Series A close. The funding will be deployed toward tape-out of next-generation REDEFINE silicon, expansion of the engineering team, and deepening engagements with defence and 5G customers in India.

About the REDEFINE Architecture

The REDEFINE platform is a many-core, reconfigurable SoC architecture designed to address heterogeneous computing workloads that are poorly served by conventional fixed-function silicon. Unlike traditional CPUs or GPUs, REDEFINE tiles can be dynamically reconfigured to accelerate different computational patterns depending on the application, making it highly versatile across AI inference, signal processing, and cryptographic workloads. This flexibility is particularly valuable in the defence and space segments, where mission-critical systems often require the ability to update hardware functionality after deployment without swapping physical chips. The platform has been in development since the company's founding and has undergone multiple tape-out cycles with government funding support.

DLI Scheme Support and Government Ecosystem

Morphing Machines is one of 24 companies approved under India's Design Linked Incentive (DLI) scheme administered by MeitY, and it is also one of the 14 DLI-backed startups that have successfully raised institutional venture capital. The DLI scheme provides up to Rs 15 crore in financial support for chip design activities, engineering cost reimbursements, and tape-out subsidies, functioning as a de-risking mechanism that allows startups to demonstrate silicon-level capability before approaching private investors. Morphing Machines' progression from DLI support to a Rs 80 crore Series A is held up by industry stakeholders as evidence that the government-to-VC pipeline is working as intended for India's chip design community.

Target Markets and Customer Segments

The company is targeting three primary verticals with REDEFINE: defence and aerospace electronics, where programmable and secure processing is a non-negotiable requirement; 5G radio access network baseband processing, where dedicated silicon outperforms general-purpose processors on throughput and power efficiency; and edge AI inference, a fast-growing segment driven by industrial automation, smart surveillance, and autonomous systems deployment across India's manufacturing sector. Morphing Machines has been in early customer engagement discussions with several Indian defence public sector units and a handful of 5G equipment suppliers, according to information shared during the funding announcement.

Significance for India's Deep-Tech Semiconductor Sector

The Morphing Machines Series A is part of a broader wave of venture capital flowing into Indian chip design companies in 2026, with the sector having attracted over 61 million dollars in the first half of the year alone, nearly 81 percent of total 2025 funding within six months. Investors are increasingly recognising that India's semiconductor ambition extends well beyond OSAT and packaging into genuine design IP and product companies. Morphing Machines, with its differentiated reconfigurable architecture and strong alignment with Indian government procurement preferences, is positioned as a key beneficiary of both private capital and public sector demand as India's domestic technology self-reliance agenda accelerates through 2026 and beyond.
