Custom ASIC/ASSP and power solutions provider Cyient Semiconductor Pte Ltd of Hyderabad has launched seven new gallium nitride (GaN) power devices for the Indian market, developed using GaN technology from Navitas Semiconductor Corp of Torrance, California. Announced on May 11, 2026, the launch marks Cyient's first commercial GaN product family and a milestone in advancing India's domestic power semiconductor ecosystem. First samples are expected by June 2026.
Cyient's initial GaN portfolio targets power applications up to 650V, addressing growing demand for high-efficiency, high-power-density solutions across multiple sectors. Key target markets include consumer USB Power Delivery (PD) chargers, laptop and mobile adapters, AC/DC power supplies, AI data center and telecommunications power systems, and e-mobility charging platforms. The seven highly integrated GaN power devices are housed in easy-to-assemble DPAK packages, combining drive, control, and protection functions with integrated EMI management and current sensing.
Building on the strategic collaboration first announced in December 2025, the licensing agreement enables Cyient Semiconductors to license Navitas's proven GaN technology for use in India. Cyient will also serve as a second source for select Navitas GaN devices already in mass production, strengthening supply chain resilience for Indian and global customers. This dual structure - local design and licensed manufacturing alongside second-sourcing - gives Indian customers commercially available GaN power solutions with enhanced local support, supply assurance, and alignment with emerging domestic sourcing initiatives.
Gallium nitride is a wide-bandgap compound semiconductor that offers significantly higher efficiency, switching speed, and power density compared to traditional silicon-based power devices. As AI data centers, electric vehicles, and 5G telecommunications infrastructure scale rapidly, demand for GaN-based power systems is growing at double-digit rates globally. India's NITI Aayog roadmap, released the same month, specifically identifies wide-bandgap compound semiconductors as a strategic area for domestic capability building - making Cyient's launch a timely first commercial milestone.
'Cyient Semiconductors is introducing its first family of GaN power ICs, marking our entry into high-performance power semiconductors with a strong roadmap for expansion,' said Cyient Semiconductors CEO Suman Narayan. 'Built on Navitas' proven GaN platform, these highly integrated devices are designed to accelerate adoption and support next-generation power applications.' Chris Allexandre, President and CEO of Navitas Semiconductor, added that India is a key market in the company's Navitas 2.0 high-growth, high-power strategy. 'This launch furthers our vision of a robust local supply chain and manufacturing in India for the government's Make in India initiatives.'
Looking ahead, Cyient Semiconductors plans to expand its GaN portfolio through partnerships with local OSATs (outsourced semiconductor assembly and test providers). Over time, the licensing agreement with Navitas is expected to enable the domestic manufacturing of GaN power devices in India through a phased approach. The strategy prioritizes ecosystem readiness and scale in the near term, while creating a clear pathway toward deeper technology participation and indigenous value creation as the Indian power electronics market matures and demand scales.
